How to Use This Tool

Select your preferred calculation method: Last Menstrual Period (LMP) or Conception Date. Enter the relevant reference date, your average cycle length (if using LMP), and the current date (defaults to today). Click Calculate to see your pregnancy progress, or Reset to clear all inputs.

If using LMP, your cycle length helps adjust results for cycles longer or shorter than 28 days. The tool will automatically update labels and visible fields when you switch methods.

Formula and Logic

This calculator uses standard gestational age guidelines adjusted for cycle length:

  • For LMP method: Gestational days = (Days between LMP and current date) - (Cycle length - 28). This adjusts for ovulation timing, which occurs ~14 days before your next period.
  • For Conception Date method: Gestational days = (Days between conception and current date) + 14. Gestational age counts from LMP, which is ~14 days before conception.
  • Trimesters are calculated as: First (0-12 weeks), Second (13-24 weeks), Third (25-36 weeks), Late Third (37+ weeks).
  • Due dates use Naegele’s rule (280 days from LMP) adjusted for cycle length, or 266 days from conception date.

Practical Notes

These tips help you use the tool effectively for everyday personal planning:

  • LMP is the first day of your last period, not the last day of bleeding. If you’re unsure, use the Conception Date method if you know when you conceived.
  • Cycle length refers to the number of days between the first day of one period and the first day of the next. Track this for 2-3 months for the most accurate result.
  • Results are estimates only. Always confirm gestational age with a healthcare provider via ultrasound for medical decisions.
  • Use the results to plan prenatal appointments, baby prep milestones, and work/life adjustments aligned with your pregnancy timeline.

Why This Tool Is Useful

This tool simplifies pregnancy tracking for everyday personal planning without needing to do manual date math. It helps you:

  • Align prenatal appointments and screenings with your exact gestational age.
  • Plan nursery prep, baby showers, and maternity leave around your due date and trimesters.
  • Adjust for irregular cycles that standard 28-day calculators ignore.
  • Share clear, copyable results with healthcare providers or family members.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this calculator accurate for irregular cycles?

Yes, the LMP method includes an adjustable cycle length field for cycles between 21 and 35 days. For very irregular cycles (shorter than 21 or longer than 35 days), consult a healthcare provider for an ultrasound-based gestational age.

Can I use this if I had IVF or assisted conception?

For IVF conceptions, use the Conception Date method and enter the date of embryo transfer or insemination. Note that IVF gestational age is calculated slightly differently, so confirm with your fertility clinic.

Why does my due date change when I adjust cycle length?

Standard due dates assume a 28-day cycle with ovulation on day 14. Longer cycles mean ovulation (and conception) occur later, so your adjusted due date will be later than the standard 28-day calculation.
