Your Session Plan
How to Use This Tool
Follow these steps to generate your yoga session plan:
- Enter your total available time for the session, and select whether the time is in minutes or hours.
- Select your experience level (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced) from the dropdown menu.
- Choose your preferred practice style (Hatha, Vinyasa, Yin, Restorative, Ashtanga).
- Indicate whether you want to include warm-up and cool-down segments in your session.
- Click the Calculate button to view your detailed session breakdown.
- Use the Reset button to clear all inputs and start over, or Copy Results to save your plan.
Formula and Logic
The tool calculates session segments using fixed percentage splits based on user inputs, with adjustments for practice style:
- Beginner: 20% warm-up, 15% cool-down, 65% active practice
- Intermediate: 15% warm-up, 10% cool-down, 75% active practice
- Advanced: 10% warm-up, 5% cool-down, 85% active practice
For Yin and Restorative practice styles, an additional 5% is added to cool-down time, subtracted from active practice time to maintain total session duration.
If warm-up or cool-down is disabled, their respective percentages are set to 0, and active practice time fills the remaining duration.
All time values are converted to minutes for calculation, rounded to 1 decimal place for display.
Practical Notes
Always consult a qualified yoga instructor or healthcare provider before starting a new practice routine, especially if you have pre-existing injuries or health conditions.
- Session duration recommendations vary by individual fitness level, flexibility, and daily energy levels.
- Beginners should prioritize proper form over session length to avoid strain or injury.
- Yin and Restorative styles are lower intensity and may require longer cool-down periods for full muscle recovery.
- Adjust session splits based on how your body feels on a given day—flexibility in planning is key to consistent practice.
- This tool provides general estimates and should not replace personalized guidance from a certified yoga professional.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use this tool for group yoga classes?
Yes, the tool works for both individual and group sessions. For group classes, use the average experience level of participants to generate a suitable plan, and adjust for the most common practice style preferred by the group.
What if my total session time is less than 15 minutes?
The tool enforces a 15-minute minimum session duration, as shorter sessions do not allow enough time for safe warm-up and cool-down segments. If you have less than 15 minutes, consider a short mindfulness or breathing exercise instead of a full yoga session.
Does the tool account for different yoga intensities?
The tool adjusts splits for lower-intensity styles (Yin, Restorative) by allocating more time to cool-down. For higher-intensity styles like Vinyasa or Ashtanga, the default splits for your experience level apply, as these styles naturally include more active movement.
Additional Guidance
Combine this tool with a weekly fitness planner to schedule regular yoga sessions that complement other workouts, such as strength training or cardio.
- Track your session durations over time to identify patterns and adjust your schedule as your fitness level improves.
- Pair your session plan with a nutrition log if you practice yoga for weight management or athletic training goals.
- Share your copied session plan with your yoga instructor for feedback on whether the splits align with your personal progress goals.
- Adjust warm-up and cool-down times seasonally—colder months may require longer warm-up segments to prepare muscles for movement.
